📚 What You Will Learn Today:
You are a great personal trainer. Your clients love you. But your calendar still has empty spots, and posting on Instagram feels like shouting into a big empty room. This guide fixes that. We will show you three simple short videos (called Reels) that you can film on your phone, and how each one turns strangers into booked sessions.
By the end of this guide, you will know:
- Why Reels get seen so much more than regular photo posts right now
- The 3 Reels every personal trainer should make, with word-for-word scripts
- How to film each one on your phone, shot by shot
- What to write in the caption so people message you
- How to turn your best Reel into a cheap ad that keeps filling your calendar
🤔 First, Why Reels? Why Not Just Post Photos?
Here is a simple truth: people cannot book a session with a trainer they have never seen.
Think of Instagram like a busy street fair. A photo post is like standing still at your booth holding a sign. A Reel is like doing a fun demo right in front of your booth. Which one makes people stop walking? The demo, every time.
And the numbers back this up. A 2026 Instagram study by Metricool found that:
- Reels get more than 4 times the interactions (likes, comments, shares, saves) of single-image posts.
- People are watching Reels longer. The average watch time more than doubled in one year, to about 8.5 seconds.
- Single photos are slipping. In the same study, the reach of single-image posts fell about 22% and their engagement fell about 46% compared to the year before.
So if you only post photos, fewer people see you every year. If you post Reels, you are standing where the crowd is.
But Notice That 8.5 Seconds
That watch time number tells you something very important. People give you only a few seconds before they decide to keep watching or keep scrolling. That is why every Reel in this guide starts with a hook in the first 2 seconds. A hook is just the first thing people see or hear that makes them think, "Wait, I want to see this."
📊 Reels vs Single Photo Posts (Metricool, 2026)
For every bit of interaction a photo gets, a Reel gets more than four times as much.
✅ The 3 Reels That Fill a Trainer's Calendar
You do not need to dance or be funny. You need three kinds of Reels, made again and again. The Quick-Fix Tip shows you are smart. The Client Win shows you are helpful. The First Session Walkthrough shows you are safe. When a stranger feels all three, they book.
💪 Reel 1: The Quick-Fix Tip
This is a short Reel, about 20 seconds, where you fix one common exercise mistake. Just one. Think squats where the knees cave in, push-ups where the hips sag, or deadlifts with a rounded back.
Why does this work? Because almost everyone who works out has wondered, "Am I doing this right?" When you answer that question in 20 seconds, you become the trainer who knows things.
The Hook (First 2 Seconds)
Start with the mistake on screen, right away. No "Hey guys, welcome back." Pick one of these openers:
- "If your knees do THIS when you squat, watch this."
- "Stop doing push-ups like this."
- "The one fix that makes lunges feel way easier."
The Script Template
0 to 2 sec: "If you [do the mistake], watch this." (Show the wrong way.)
2 to 12 sec: "Here's the fix. [One simple cue, like: push your knees out like you're spreading the floor]." (Show the right way, slowly.)
12 to 17 sec: "This keeps [the knees safe / the work in your legs / your back happy]." (Side by side, wrong then right.)
17 to 20 sec: "Want my 3 favorite squat fixes? Comment SQUAT and I'll send them."
The Shot List (Phone Only)
- Shot A: Side view, full body, doing the mistake (3 seconds of footage).
- Shot B: Same angle, doing it the right way, a little slower.
- Shot C: Close-up of the body part that matters (the knees, the hips, the back).
- Shot D: You facing the camera saying the call to action.
Prop your phone on a bench or a water bottle at hip height. Film near a window or in your best-lit corner. That is all the gear you need.
The Caption
"Knees caving in on squats? Super common, and an easy fix. Push your knees out like you're spreading the floor apart. Try it on your next set and feel the difference. 👇 Comment SQUAT and I'll DM you my 3 favorite squat fixes for beginners."
Add big text on the screen in the first 2 seconds, like "KNEES CAVING IN?" Lots of people scroll with the sound off. The words on screen do the hooking for them.
📊 The 20-Second Reel Formula
Every Reel in this guide follows the same shape: hook, show, explain, ask.
🏆 Reel 2: The Client Win (Day in the Life)
This Reel shows a real client having a real win. Not a body change. A life change. Things like:
- "Sarah carried all her groceries up three flights of stairs in one trip."
- "Mike played tag with his kids for 20 minutes without needing a break."
People do not dream about numbers on a scale nearly as much as you think. They dream about feeling strong, having energy, and keeping up with their life. Show them that.
Facebook and Instagram have strict rules for fitness content, especially if you ever turn it into an ad. So for this Reel: no before-and-after body photos, no weight numbers, no "lost 20 pounds," and nothing that makes anyone feel bad about their body. Talk about feelings, strength, energy, and habits. That is also what makes these Reels feel warm instead of pushy.
The Hook (First 2 Seconds)
- "Three months ago, Dana couldn't do one push-up. Watch this."
- "This is what 'I finally feel strong' looks like."
The Script Template
0 to 2 sec: "[Name] couldn't [do the thing] when we started. Watch this." (Show the moment, like the push-up rep.)
2 to 15 sec: Quick clips of the session: warm-up, a hard set, a laugh, a high five.
15 to 25 sec: The client talks to the camera: "I just feel stronger. I have more energy for my kids."
25 to 30 sec: You: "Want to feel like this? Comment START and I'll send you how my program works."
The Shot List (Phone Only)
- Shot A: The win itself, filmed live (the push-up, the heavy carry, the finish line).
- Shot B: 3 or 4 short clips from the session, 2 seconds each.
- Shot C: The client, face to camera, saying one sentence about how they feel.
- Shot D: You with the call to action.
Always get your client's okay in writing (a quick text is fine) before you post them. Most clients are happy to help. Some even feel proud. But always ask first.
The Caption
"When Dana started, push-ups from the floor felt impossible. Today she did her first one and we both screamed. 🎉 It's not about being perfect. It's about showing up. 👇 Comment START and I'll send you how my 1-on-1 program works."
👋 Reel 3: What Your First Session Looks Like
Here is a secret most trainers miss. Lots of people already want a trainer. What stops them is fear. Fear of being judged. Fear of being the most out-of-shape person in the room. Fear of not knowing what to do.
This Reel walks them through the first session, step by step, so the scary unknown becomes a friendly known. It is like a tour of a new school before the first day. Kids are way less nervous once they have seen the classroom.
The Hook (First 2 Seconds)
- "Nervous about your first session with a trainer? Here's exactly what happens."
- "Your first hour with me, start to finish."
The Script Template
0 to 2 sec: "Nervous about your first session? Here's exactly what happens."
2 to 8 sec: "First, we sit down and talk. What do you want? What's hurting? What have you tried?" (Show you and a client chatting.)
8 to 18 sec: "Then we move. Easy stuff, just so I can see how your body moves. No one's getting crushed on day one." (Show simple movements.)
18 to 26 sec: "Then you leave with a plan that fits YOUR week." (Show you writing or texting the plan.)
26 to 30 sec: "Want to try it? Comment FIRST and I'll send you a spot."
The Shot List (Phone Only)
- Shot A: You at the door or front desk, waving hello.
- Shot B: Sitting and talking with a client (or a friend playing the client).
- Shot C: 2 or 3 easy movements: a bodyweight squat, a band pull, a light carry.
- Shot D: You handing over or texting the plan.
- Shot E: You with the call to action.
Remember: People do not buy training. They buy feeling safe with a trainer. This Reel sells safety.
The Caption
"Never worked with a trainer? Totally normal to feel nervous. Here's what your first session with me looks like: we talk, we move, you leave with a plan. No yelling. No judging. 👇 Comment FIRST and I'll send you open times this week."
💬 Why Every Reel Ends With "Comment a Keyword"
You might notice every script ends the same way: "Comment [WORD] and I'll send you…" That is on purpose.
Asking people to "book a session" in a Reel is like asking someone to marry you on the first date. Too big, too fast. Asking them to type one word is tiny and easy. And once they type it, now you can start a real conversation.
What Happens After They Comment
- They comment "SQUAT" (or START, or FIRST).
- They get a direct message right away with the thing you promised.
- That message asks one easy question, like: "Are you working out now, or starting fresh?"
- A friendly back-and-forth happens, then you offer a first session or a free trial week.
Here is where most trainers lose people. Someone comments at 9pm, and the trainer replies the next afternoon. By then, the person has moved on. If you reach a new lead within 5 minutes, your chances of booking them are much higher. You can't watch your phone all day, so set this up to happen automatically: an instant Messenger or Instagram reply, plus a text message as soon as they share their phone number.
"Hey! Here are my 3 favorite squat fixes 👉 [link]. Quick question so I can point you the right way: are you training right now, or getting started? 😊"
Pick a different keyword for each Reel. Then you know exactly which Reel brought in which person. That is how you find your best Reel, which matters a lot in the next step.
🚀 Turn Your Best Reel Into a Cheap Ad
Posting Reels for free is great. But free reach goes up and down like a seesaw. Some weeks you get lots of views, some weeks almost none. An ad keeps your best Reel in front of new local people every single day.
Think of it like this. Your free Reels are taste tests. You give out lots of samples and see which flavor people love most. Then you take the winning flavor and put it on the shelf in every store in town. The ad is the shelf.
How to Pick the Winner
Look at your last 6 to 10 Reels. Which one got the most of these?
- Keyword comments (the best sign, because it means people raised their hand)
- Shares and saves (people thought it was useful)
- Watch time (people stayed to the end)
How to Set Up the Ad (The Simple Version)
- Use the Reel as the ad video. Do not re-film it to look fancy. The real, phone-made look often works better because it looks like you, not like a commercial.
- Show it only to people near you. Most clients will not drive more than 15 or 20 minutes for a trainer. Set your area tight around your gym or studio.
- Pick the right goal. Tell Facebook you want messages or leads, not "views" or "engagement." Facebook gives you what you ask for. Ask for views, you get viewers. Ask for leads, you get people raising their hand.
- Add a clear offer. "Free first session," "Free trial week," or "Join our 6-week strength challenge." Something that makes saying yes easy.
- Start small. A small daily budget is plenty to learn what works. You can always add more once it is bringing in booked sessions.
"Nervous about working with a trainer? Here's exactly what your first session with me looks like. We talk, we move, you leave with a plan that fits your week. Tap below to grab a free first session this month."
Notice what is NOT in there: no weight promises, no "get shredded in 30 days," no before-and-after photos. Just a friendly invite to feel stronger and build a habit.
📊 How a Reel Becomes a Booked Session
The Reel starts the conversation. Fast follow-up turns it into a booking.
🤝 Want Someone to Run the Ad Side for You?
That is what we do at CPC Ninja. We run Facebook and Instagram ads for gyms, personal trainers, and fitness studios. We take the Reels you already make, turn the best ones into ads, and hook them up to automatic text follow-up so leads do not go cold.
You fill out a short application. If you're a good fit, you get a free 20-minute call with Nerisa. She will look at what you offer (PT sessions, small group, a 6-week challenge, a free trial week), who your best clients are, and what you have tried so far. Then she will tell you plainly what an ad campaign built around your Reels would look like and what it would cost. No pressure. If it is not a fit, she will tell you that too.
📈 Keep Score So You Know What Works
You would never train a client without tracking their lifts. Treat your Reels the same way. Once a week, write down five simple numbers in a notebook or spreadsheet:
- Reels posted this week
- Keyword comments and DMs (people who raised their hand)
- Conversations that got a reply from you or your automatic messages
- First sessions booked
- New paying clients, counted on the day they actually paid
Say someone comments on a Reel in March, books a first session in April, and buys a 10-pack of sessions in May. That sale belongs to May. Counting it on the day the money came in keeps your numbers honest, so you always know what is really working this month.
📝 Quick Summary
The 3 Reels, In One Place
- Reel 1, the Quick-Fix Tip: one exercise mistake, one fix, about 20 seconds. Shows you know your stuff.
- Reel 2, the Client Win: a real moment of feeling strong. No before-and-after bodies, no weight numbers.
- Reel 3, the First Session Walkthrough: shows nervous people exactly what happens, so starting feels safe.
- Hook in 2 seconds, end with a keyword. "Comment START" is easier than "book now."
- Follow up within 5 minutes, automatically. That is where bookings are won or lost.
- Turn your best Reel into an ad. Local area, leads goal, clear offer, small start.

🎓 Your Action Plan
Week 1: Film your first three
- Pick one exercise mistake you fix all the time. That is your Quick-Fix Reel.
- Ask one client if you can film a session this week (get their okay by text).
- Film your First Session Walkthrough with a friend playing the new client.
- Post all three, each with its own keyword (like SQUAT, START, FIRST).
Week 2: Set up fast follow-up
- Turn on automatic replies for your keywords on Instagram and Messenger.
- Make sure new leads get a text within 5 minutes, even at night.
- Film and post three more Reels using the same templates.
Week 3: Find your winner
- Look at which Reel got the most keyword comments, shares, and saves.
- Write down your five numbers: Reels, comments, conversations, sessions booked, new paying clients.
- Pick a simple offer to go with your best Reel: free first session, free trial week, or a 6-week challenge.
Week 4: Turn it into an ad
- Run your best Reel as an ad to people near your gym, with a leads or messages goal.
- Start with a small daily budget and watch how many people raise their hand.
- Keep posting three Reels a week so you always have new "taste tests."
Short application. If you're a fit, a free 20-minute call with Nerisa. Plain answers about your gym or studio. No pressure.
The trainers with full calendars are not always the best-looking or the funniest on camera. They are the ones who post steadily, answer every comment fast, and keep making the same three helpful Reels over and over. Simple and steady beats fancy and rare. You can do this!
