📚 What You Will Learn Today:
Getting leads on Facebook does not have to be hard. Years ago we built a simple plan for a client who owned a small studio. It worked so well that we have used the same plan, with small changes, for gyms, dentists, med spas, martial arts schools, and home service companies ever since. This guide walks you through that plan step by step.
By the end of this guide, you will know:
- What a "lead" really is, and why they are the lifeblood of a local business
- The 6-part plan we use to get leads on Facebook for almost any local business
- How to write an offer people actually want to click
- The one thing that turns leads into paying customers (hint: it happens in the first 5 minutes)
- A simple 30-day plan you can start this week
🤔 First, What Is a Lead and Why Do You Need Them?
A lead is just a person who raised their hand and said, "I might be interested." They gave you their name and phone number. They are not a customer yet. But they are a lot closer than a stranger.
Think about fishing. A stranger is a fish somewhere out in the lake. A lead is a fish that already bit your hook. You still have to reel it in, but the hard part is done.
Every local business needs a steady stream of leads. Why? Because customers leave. They move away. They get busy. They forget about you. If new people are not coming in, your business slowly shrinks even if you are great at what you do.
The studio owner we built this plan for had a nice space, good trainers, and happy members. His problem was simple: not enough new faces walking in. He was relying on people who happened to drive past his sign. We set up a Facebook lead plan for him, and within the first month he had a list of local people asking about his classes. He did not become a better coach that month. He just stopped waiting for people to find him.
Why Facebook?
Facebook (which also owns Instagram) is where your neighbors spend their time. It knows where people live, how old they are, and what they like. You can tell it: "Show my ad only to people within 10 miles of my shop." No other place lets a small business do that so cheaply.
📊 Stranger to Customer
Facebook ads move people from the gray box to the blue box. The rest is up to your follow-up.
✅ The 6-Part Plan for Easy Facebook Leads
Here is the exact plan, in order. Do not skip steps. Each one makes the next one work better.
Pick ONE Offer That Is Easy to Say Yes To
This is where most ads fail before they even start. Business owners want to tell people about everything they do. But an ad that says everything says nothing.
Your offer should be one simple thing with a low risk for the customer. Something they can say yes to without thinking too hard.
Good Offer Examples
- Fitness studio: "Try 2 weeks of classes for $29."
- Dentist: "New patient exam and cleaning special."
- Med spa: "Free skin consultation this month."
- Martial arts school: "Free first class for kids ages 5 to 12."
- HVAC company: "$49 AC tune-up before summer hits."
- Realtor: "Find out what your home is worth in today's market."
The owner wanted to advertise his yearly membership. We talked him out of it. Nobody buys a year of anything from a stranger on Facebook. Instead, we ran a short trial offer. It was cheap, it was easy to understand, and people could try it without a big promise. Once they came in and liked it, selling the membership was easy.
Offering "10% off." Nobody gets excited about 10% off. Give a clear, simple thing: a free class, a $29 trial, a free checkup. A number people can picture beats a percent every time.
Talk to ONE Kind of Person
Imagine you are at a crowded party. If you yell "Hey everyone!" nobody turns around. If you yell "Hey, Sarah!" Sarah turns around right away.
Your ad works the same way. Instead of "Attention everyone in town," say "Busy moms in Springfield who want to feel strong again." The people who fit that description feel like you are talking right to them.
How to Pick Your Person
- Think about your 5 favorite customers. What do they have in common?
- What problem did they have before they found you?
- What words do they use to describe that problem? (Use THEIR words, not yours.)
A chiropractor's favorite patients were people who sit at a desk all day and have a stiff neck by 3 p.m. So her ad said: "Does your neck feel like concrete by the afternoon? Desk workers in Riverside, this is for you." Desk workers stopped scrolling. Everyone else kept going, and that is fine. She only wanted the desk workers.
A smaller, more specific audience almost always gives you cheaper, better leads than a big general one. Do not be afraid to leave people out.
Make a Simple Ad: One Picture, One Problem, One Button
You do not need a fancy video crew. The best local ads often look like a regular post from a friend. Here is the recipe.
The Picture or Video
- Show a real person. You, your team, or a happy customer who said yes to being in the ad.
- Take it with your phone in good light. Stock photos look like ads, and people skip ads.
- If you do a video, keep it under 30 seconds. Say who it is for and what the offer is.
The Words
Use this simple order:
- Call out the person: "Parents in Oak Park..."
- Name the problem: "...tired of your kid staring at a screen all day?"
- Give the offer: "Bring them in for a free first karate class."
- Tell them what to do: "Tap the button and pick a day."
Never promise results like "lose 20 pounds in 2 weeks." Never use before-and-after body photos. Never make people feel bad about how they look. Say "get fit," "feel stronger," "build a habit," "get relief." Breaking these rules can shut your ad account off.
Use a Lead Form (Not Just a Link to Your Website)
Facebook has a tool called a lead form. When someone taps your ad, a little form pops up right inside Facebook. Their name, email, and phone are already filled in. They tap "Submit" and you have a lead. It takes about 3 seconds.
Compare that to sending people to your website. The page has to load. They have to find the form. They have to type everything in. Half of them give up. Lead forms remove all that friction.
Add One or Two Questions
Do not stop at name and phone. Add a question or two that tells you who is serious:
- "What is your biggest goal right now?"
- "When would you like to come in? This week / Next week / Just looking"
- "Have you tried something like this before?"
People who answer the questions are more serious. And their answers tell you exactly what to say when you text them back.
Turn on the setting that makes people confirm before they submit. You will get slightly fewer leads, but far fewer "oops, I tapped that by accident" ones.
Text Every Lead Within 5 Minutes, Automatically
Here it is. The step that makes or breaks everything. You can have the best ad in the world, but if you call your leads back tomorrow, most of them are gone.
Why? Because a lead is hot for about 5 minutes. They just saw your ad. They are thinking about your offer right now. An hour later, they are making dinner. Tomorrow, they forgot they ever filled out a form.
Contact a lead in under 5 minutes and your chance of booking them is many times higher than if you wait an hour. This matters more than your ad picture, your targeting, or your budget.
How to Do It Without Living on Your Phone
Set up an automatic text that fires the second someone submits the form. Something like:
"Hi Maria! This is Jake from Oak Park Martial Arts. Thanks for grabbing the free class for your little one. What day works best, Tuesday or Saturday morning?"
If they do not reply, the system sends a friendly follow-up the next day, then two days later, then a week later. Most people book somewhere in that window. You never had to remember anything.
Before automatic texting, the owner was calling leads back "when he got a minute," which was usually after his evening classes. Most leads never answered. Once texts went out instantly, people started replying while they were still sitting on the couch looking at his ad. Booking rates jumped. Same ads, same leads, different speed.
📊 Why Speed Wins
The faster you reply, the more leads you book. Automatic texting makes "under 5 minutes" happen every single time, even at 11 p.m.
Track 4 Numbers Every Week
You do not need a spreadsheet with 50 columns. You need 4 numbers:
- Money spent on ads this week
- Leads that came in
- Appointments booked from those leads
- Sales and how much money they brought in
Divide money spent by leads and you get your cost per lead. Divide money spent by sales and you get your cost per sale. That second number is the one that matters. A $3 lead who never buys is worth nothing. A $15 lead who pays you $500 is a great deal.
Count a sale on the day the customer actually paid, not the day they filled out the form and not the day they said "sounds good." Money in the bank is the only thing that counts. This keeps your numbers honest.
You spend $400 on ads. You get 40 leads ($10 each). You book 15 appointments. 6 people pay you $300 each. That is $1,800 back from $400 spent. Now you know this works, and you can confidently spend $800 next month.
📊 Follow the Money
Each level gets smaller. That is normal. The question is only whether the bottom number is bigger than the top one.
📝 Quick Summary
The 6-Part Plan, In One Place
- One easy offer — a trial, a free class, a checkup special
- One kind of person — talk to Sarah, not the whole party
- One simple ad — real photo, one problem, one button
- A lead form with one or two qualifying questions
- Automatic texting within 5 minutes, then polite follow-ups
- Track 4 numbers — spent, leads, booked, paid
Remember: The ad gets the lead. The follow-up gets the customer. Most businesses spend all their energy on the first part and none on the second. Flip that and you will beat everyone in town.
🎓 Your 30-Day Action Plan
Week 1 — Get ready
- Write down your one offer and your one kind of person
- Take 5 real photos or one short phone video
- Set up your automatic text follow-up so it is ready before any lead arrives
Week 2 — Turn it on
- Build your lead form with 2 qualifying questions
- Launch one ad at $15 to $25 a day to people within 10 miles
- Check that your first test lead gets a text within 5 minutes
Week 3 — Watch and learn
- Write down your 4 numbers
- Read the answers people gave on your form. Use their words in your next ad
- Try a second picture or headline against the first
Week 4 — Grow what works
- Keep the ad that got cheaper leads, pause the other
- If your cost per sale looks good, raise your budget a little
- Ask every new customer for a review while they are happy
The studio owner who started all this did not have a big budget or a marketing degree. He had one good offer, one clear message, and texts that went out fast. That is the whole secret. You can do this too.
